Mona Guenon "Sasha" & Calico Kitty "Prasod", Part I
1. "Prasod" was our friend Genevieve's stray kitty, found pregnant. Genevieve's moving to Jamaica soon, so Prasod (which means, "gift from God"), comes over to live at Sasha's house when her babies are two days old. |
| 2. On the second day, Prasod and Sasha act like they are old familiar friends. Prasod never hisses or yowls at Sasha like some cats would. Sasha just climbs in and starts grooming Prasod and the babies. After examining all the kittens...Sasha picks little orange Teddy to hold first. All the other kittens... |

3 ...are black and white and Sasha
seems to like Teddy's special color. She has checked each
one to see if it is a boy or girl. This is a fun game for
Sasha and she repeats it many times. Inside the house, Sasha doesn't want me to touch Teddy at all. She's afraid I'll take him and so she's very protective. |
| 4. Here she is sitting with Teddy on the couch. He's very laid back and just takes a nap. Don't think you can take him when she relaxes or looks the other way... |
5 ...She pulls him back up again and takes charge. Right now, Teddy is the most important thing in Sasha's day. |
6. She's a very vigilant mom. |
7. Sasha wants to hold Teddy as much as she can. She has a long attention span for babies and after an hour, she is still just as interested. Normally she would be quite active, running all over the house, in and out into the enclosed yard. But today sitting quietly with a baby kitty is more important. |
8. Teddy's asleep but she's alert. Sasha often will hold the kitties upright like they are baby monkeys. But she knows they don't hold on to her. It's time for a transition now. I promise her another kitty as a trade for Teddy. It's not easy. I have to coax and coax Sasha. Now it's time to put the butterball Teddy... |

9 ...back with his cat mom. |
10. When we go back to the cat basket, she picks another boy, "Tucker", and she loves him just as much. Sasha has shown a preference for girl kittens before, so I would think she would pick a girl baby, but maybe she likes Tucker's special markings. He gets a nice hug under Sasha's fluffy chin. |
11. Now she's getting a closer look at his interesting markings. She will groom him a little, smacking her lips as she carefully runs her hand through his fur. |
12. She examines his tiny face. |
13. One reason Sasha loves kitties so much is because she was introduced to many kittens as a youngster. Initially she was fearful of all cats and kittens. As you can see, she got over it completely. Now whichever baby she has seems to be the all-time favorite at the moment. |
14. She just adores Tucker. She goes from a one armed hug to a two armed hug in the next picture, one around his neck and the other around his waist. Tucker's very calm and sleepy. But soon she knows I want her to put Tucker back and she's resistant. It takes some manipulation on my part. But now it's time for Sasha to go back to the kitty area and... |

15 ...say goodbye to them for the day. Sasha has been holding babies for almost two hours. When we leave the kittens, do I get gratitude from Sasha? Oh no. She is unhappy and would like to hold them some more. She doesn't understand why she can't. So to express her opinion, she puts her hand on my arm and I get a big pinch with a hard twist to it... |
