Patas Monkey Factoids
The patas monkey infant is black for the first two months of life.
Patas monkeys walk on their fingers, which is called digitigrade, not on the flats of their hands like most monkeys.
Patas monkeys have been clocked running up to 55 miles an hour making them the fastest monkey in the world. The greyhound dog runs about 45 miles per hour and the cheetah runs about 60 miles an hour.
Like the cheetah, the patas monkey is shaped like a greyhound dog. The patas monkey has a narrow build with a narrow head, long legs, a slender tail and an aristocratic appearance. Like the cheetah and the greyhound, the patas monkey has muscular hindquarters.
Patas monkeys, like 9 month old patas monkey Bhuti, may also run standing up, also called bipedally.
